Solitary Islands Coastal Walk – 2–6 October
More details will be provided as planning progresses, but here’s an overview of what’s shaping up to be an incredible coastal adventure.
The Plan:
We’ll depart on Friday 2 October, driving up to Coffs Harbour together as a group.
From Saturday 3 October, we’ll begin hiking sections of the stunning Solitary Islands Coastal Walk, travelling along one of NSW’s most scenic coastlines.
Each night, we’ll stay at local Scout Halls or suitable camping locations along the route, carrying our gear and building self-sufficiency over multiple days.
The hike will finish at the Coffs Harbour Butterfly House, where we’ll wrap up the journey and celebrate an epic achievement before heading home.
What to Expect:
This expedition is designed to support OAS Bushwalking Stage 4–5 progression, with a strong focus on:
Multi-day hike planning and execution
Navigation and coastal route finding
Lightweight hiking and pack management
Teamwork and resilience in a real expedition environment
Important:
This is not for novice bushwalkers.
Participants must:
Have a good level of fitness
Be confident with multi-day pack carrying and hiking
Be comfortable in coastal and variable weather conditions
Mandatory Preparation Sessions:
Online planning session – Date TBC
In-person gear check & pack weigh-in – Date TBC at 1st Ermington Scout Hall

Costs:
Food and incidental costs will be confirmed closer to the event and discussed during the planning session.
Supervision & Transport:
This activity will be indirectly supervised by Scout Leaders
Carpooling will be organised for travel to and from Coffs Harbour
This is shaping up to be an epic coastal expedition—a chance to push yourself, build serious hiking capability, and experience one of the best walks in NSW.
