Brief Summary:
The 1st Ermington Scout Section organised this Six Foot Track Hike (3 Days, 2 Nights) to support a scout completing his Adventurous Journey for the Australian Scout Award. Please note the activity is planned and led by a youth working for the Peak Award. The Six Foot Track was originally a bridle trail from Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves. The Scout would be walking along most but not all of the track due to road closures. Participants will walk for about 39km from the Cnr of Pardons Rd & Jenolan Caves Rd, Ganbenang to Old Ford Reserve, 1363 Megalong Rd, Megalong Valley, during the Easter holidays. Previous lightweight camping, bushwalking experience, and good fitness are required. Bushwalking OAS Stage 4 and above is required.
Additional Information

We are starting at the Cnr of Pardons Rd & Jenolan Caves Rd because there are multiple road closures at the moment in the Blue Mountains general vicinity and the Jenolan Caves Rd in particular. We will meet organise car pooling for drop off and pickups so that its easier to get to the start and get back home after the hike.

Our first day's hike is through a State Forest all the way through to Black Range Camping Ground. There might be logging trucks about so we need to be careful.

On the second day, we will be walking along the Black Range Road and Glen Chee Road, which are both a firetrails all the way through to Alum Creek Camping Ground. Good news is that its all downhill.

On the third day, we will continue to walk along the Glen Chee Road and then the Siz Foot Track to reach Cox River Campground. We will just pass through the campsite and continue along the Six Foot Track by crossing the Cox River via the Bowtells Swing Bridge and then to the finish point of Old Ford Reserve. Car pooling will be used to bring us back home!

The Route:

  • Day 1: Cnr of Pardons Rd & Jenolan Caves Rd, Ganbenang to Black Range Camping Ground
  • Day 2: Black Range Camping Ground to Alum Creek Camping Ground
  • Day 3: Alum Creek Camping Ground to Old Ford Reserve, 1363 Megalong Rd, Megalong Valley

The event will present Scouts with knowledge and skill development opportunities for OAS Bushwalking stage 4-5 progressions. Develop confidence in Bushwalking activities.

This activity is not for novice bushwalkers.

Good fitness and bushwalking skills will be a requirement to join the event.

Attendence at the following preparatory sessions are mandatory:

  1. Online planning session on Tuesday 31/03 @ 7:30pm.
  2. In-person bag check/weighing session on Tuesday 7/04 @ 7:30pm at the 1st Ermington Scout Hall.

The cost of food and incidentals will be known closer to the event date and will be notified during the Online Theory session.

This hike will be remotely supervised by Scout appointed Guides.

Carpooling will be organised for travel to and from the hike start/end locations.

It should be an awesome hike. Hope you can join us!
