Brief Summary:
This activity will involve bushwalking on formed and unformed tracks between a series of bases within the bush land and include outdoor activities such as map reading, camp cooking and erecting tents in the grounds of the reserve. Covers aspects of OAS levels 1 to 3 and aspects of SP.

Location start: BLACKBUTT RESERVE - NEW LAMBTON HEIGHTS - LOOKOUT ROAD CARPARK The car park is located opposite the hill top water tanks near Grandview Pde. The activity will end at Dead Tree Picinic Area.

The aim of the day is to prepare younger participants for bushwalking in a variety of situations and topics include equipment, safety, environment, .  There will be plenty of discussion and opportunity for questions, working in small groups and hands-on activity.

The activity will involve bush walking on formed and unformed tracks between a series of bases.

The Activity is for Joeys, Cubs, Leaders, Adult Helpers.

EQUIPMENT - you will need to bring your needs for the day including

  • a weekend walk size back pack - young Scouts best to borrow one to see what might best suit them - avoid having to hand carry gear
  • a belt pouch or shoulder bag for ready access to work sheets and maps
  • water (2 lt) and food including snacks for hike.
  • suitable enclosed sturdy comfortable footwear, sun hat and sun screen
  • compass (if available) - prefer 'base plate' type suitable for mapping
  • small personal first aid kit
  • jumper or wet weather gear appropriate to the forecast
  • pocket note book and pens
