Brief Summary:
Paddling from Tallowa Dam (near Kangaroo Valley, up the Shoalhaven River to camp on the sandy river bank, then return next day. Paddling distance is approx 13km each day. Spectacular views through the Shoalhaven Gorge which is regarded as one of the most scenic paddles in NSW. Attendees must have completed a scout canoe skills course prior to attending (not open to novices).

Requirements

  • Participants to organise a seat in a canoe, paddle & PFD (lifejacket). These are not provided as part of the event. Organise with your group. Additional hire fees for groups hiring region canoes and likely need to organise transport.
  • Must have completed a scout canoe skills course prior to attending (not open to novices).
  • No sit-on or inflatable canoes.
  • Anyone wishing to use a kayak must be able to pack all their equipment in the craft and must be able to demonstrate a safe wet exit.

You need to bring your own food, drinks and all camping equipment for the weekend. Everything needs to be packed assuming the canoe will capsize.

There are unlikely to be any faciltities at the campsite. Pit toilets are available at some campsites, but we may not be able to camp at these. Water from the river should be treated before drinking.
